Choose one of the following activities to do with your child

1. VALUE OTHERS

WHAT YOU NEED: Bible, ball

WHAT YOU DO:

• Guide kids to look up and read the memory verse
• Guide the kids to sit in a circle and spread out a bit with their feet touching
  (or close to touching) each other’s feet.
• Give a kid the ball and ask her to roll it to another kid, saying the first word
  of the verse as she rolls.
• That child will then roll the ball to someone else, saying the second word of
  the verse as he rolls.
• Continue until the kids say the entire verse. Be sure to provide plenty of help
  as needed!
• Unpack the phrase “value others more than yourselves.” (Suggestion below.)
• Finally, guide kids to value others by calling another child’s name, saying
  something they value about them (they’re kind, helpful, willing to share,
  etc.), and then rolling the ball to that child.
• Continue until every child has been “valued.”

WHAT YOU SAY:

“Philippians 2:3 tells us to: Value others more than yourselves (NIrV). What do you think it means to value others more than yourself? (It means to put others first; to think about other people before you think about yourself; to do kind things for other people; to think of other people as more important; etc.) Great ideas! This week look for ways to value others more than yourselves. When you do, you’ll be like Jesus!”

2. PRAY AND DISMISS

WHAT YOU NEED: No supplies needed

WHAT YOU DO:

• Guide kids to gather around you.
• Use the conversation below to guide kids into prayer.

WHAT YOU SAY:

“God made our world SO amazing that there’s always more to discover! There’s always more to discover about the world that God made, about the things that we enjoy doing, and about the things that we learn in school. Even more, there’s always more to discover about God’s plan!

“What’s something that you can learn more about this week? [Make It Personal] (Tell kids one thing that you’ll seek to learn more about.) Great ideas! Let’s pray and ask God to help us.

“Dear God, thank You for the gift of learning. Thank You that there’s always more to discover about Your plan! Help us have attitudes that are ready to learn more about the world You made, about You, and about your Son, Jesus. We love You so much, Lord! You are amazing! Amen.”

Choose one of the following activities to do with your child

1. MISSING WORD
WHAT YOU NEED: Bible

WHAT YOU DO:
• Gather the group together in a circle.
• Briefly review the concept of humility—putting others first by giving up what you think you deserve.
• Direct someone to look up and read Philippians 2:3 to the group, just to review the verse.
• Ask the person with the Bible to recite (or read) the verse again, but replace one word with a handclap.
• The rest of the group must guess the missing word.
• Pass the Bible and repeat the process until everyone has had a turn.
• For an extra challenge, ask kids to hold the Bible upside down as they read.
• If your group has memorized the verse, increase the challenge by having them choosing more than one word to leave out.

WHAT YOU SAY:
“You’ve done a great job learning an important verse. The Bible is full of promises, commands, and encouragement. There’s always more to discover about God’s plan and how to follow Him in the Bible. As we wrap up the month and our study of humility, let’s say Philippians 2:3 together one more time as a final challenge.” (Lead kids in reciting the verse as they stand and
face one another.)

2. PRAY AND DISMISS

WHAT YOU NEED: Paper Clips

WHAT YOU DO:

• Set out the paper clips and show kids how to link them together to make a chain that fits on their wrist like a bracelet.
• As kids work, ask them to share one thing they have discovered this month about humility or something they learned about God.
• When finished, let kids put on their chain bracelets.
• Use the conversation below to guide them in prayer.

WHAT YOU SAY:

“Take your bracelet home with you as a reminder that there’s always more to discover about God’s plan. Just like the circle of paper clips has no end, the things we can discover about life and God go on and on as well. Let’s pray and ask God to help us choose to put others first and to keep discovering more about how to live for Jesus.

“Dear God, like the men who met Jesus on the road to Emmaus, we want to always be eager to learn more. They knew a lot about You, and so do we, but none of us know everything. Help us to discover more about You every day. In Jesus’ name, amen.”

WHAT YOU DO:
• Lay out all of the trivia questions and tell kids that there probably isn’t anyone in your group who knows the answer to literally all the questions, so they have to work together to figure them out!
• Ask if anyone knows the answer to any of the questions.
• Let them answer, and if they’re correct (answers below), hand them the corresponding answer card.
• Continue letting kids answer the questions until you’re left with only the questions that no one knows the answer to.
• Lay out all remaining answer cards and let kids work together to match the questions with their correct answers.
• Discuss and wrap up:
     –  Did any one of us know ALL of the answers?
     –  What can you learn from games like this? (That we don’t know everything! That there’s always more to learn)

• Have you ever had someone tell you or teach you something you already knew? How do you show humility in that kind of situation?
