What is Heart Discipleship?
Have you ever deeply desired to grow more like Jesus, to hear the Holy Spirit’s voice in a real and personal way, and to apply Scripture to everyday life—yet found yourself feeling stuck, unsure how to move forward?
Heart Discipleship is a way of following Jesus that helps you pay attention and respond to what the Holy Spirit is doing in your heart in your everyday moments of life.
God changes you to become like Jesus from the inside out, but it looks different for each person because the Holy Spirit leads you in a way that is unique to you, your life and your season.
To help you get started, we’ve created a 4-Step Heart Discipleship Journey—a simple, repeatable process that you can keep coming back to in different everyday moments. We’ve also included the 4 Heart Habits, which give deeper guidance for taking Step 2, where real heart change begins to take shape.
Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.
Proverbs 4:23 (NLT)
For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.
Philippians 2:13 (NLT)
And I am sure of this, that [God] who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
4-Step Heart Discipleship Journey
The Heart Discipleship Journey is a dynamic, 4-step process that helps you become like Jesus and represent Jesus in everyday life. It is designed to be repeated across different everyday moments, helping you grow from the inside out as you follow Jesus and live out your faith in real life.

The 4 Heart Habits
Step 2 of the Heart Discipleship Journey is about starting with the heart—noticing what the Holy Spirit is doing inside you and choosing to respond. The 4 Heart Habits are internal habits that help you recognise how the Holy Spirit is using your everyday moments to grow you and help you represent Jesus in that part of your life. This step includes things like prayer, reading the Bible, being part of church community, and staying close to God. Most of all, it’s about being willing to let God work in your heart so you can live more like Jesus.
The Heart Habits are formed by asking 4 sets of questions:
Invitation – Is the Holy Spirit inviting me into a disciple-making moment right now?
Conviction – How is the Holy Spirit convicting me to respond? What is the Holy Spirit revealing about what is ruling my heart?
Surrender – What is the Holy Spirit asking me to surrender? How is He helping me do that?
Belief – What is the Holy Spirit showing me about God’s character that helps me trust and obey Him in this area of my life?
