God is Love (Love Loud)

We want to see our community changed and come to Jesus. To do this we need to look to God first, to see who He is and how great He is. We want to learn to see people through His eyes and to know what He sees. He understood the culture, the community, the Father’s heart, the environment and the people. That is why He was able to make such a great impact. We want to do the same.

Observation

  • What do these passages tell us about God?
  • What do these passages tell us about you and your life?

Application

In order for us to love like God loves we need to have a heart that is in line with God’s heart. As we read through the Scriptures we see that God has a heart for people and so we need to have the same love for people. That requires us to know the communities we live in, the culture we live in, and the context we live in. Our communities must experience the character of Christ through us.

Discuss one or more of the following questions.

  1. In his message, Kyle shared it can be easy for us to shy away from connecting with parts of our community because we are worried, but as we look at the life of Jesus we see that he lived in and amongst his communities. How does this statement challenge or encourage you in your relationship with Jesus?
  2. Christians today may feel like they need to separate themselves from “the world” in order to preserve a sense of righteousness and holiness. While the Bible does tell us to be set apart and holy, how do you think this interplays with Scripture’s command of being “salt and light” to the world?
  3. How easy is it for us to misunderstand people in our community because we do not know enough about them? Kyle told a story of a parent and child that had a great impact on him once he got to know them better, are there people in your life that you have avoided building relationships with that the Holy Spirit is convicting you about?
  4. Jesus came to Earth and showed the heart of God for people. How does this statement make you feel about how you view your community?

Response

  • Is there a truth that God wants you to obey?
  • What will you do to obey this? I will…
  • Who can you share this with?
