Observation

  • What is the key message of this passage? Explain why you think so?
  • What does this passage tell us about God?
  • Are there truths in this passage that contradicts your own thinking about God, self or the world?

Application

As disciples of Jesus we try to discern God’s guidance and will in our decision-making.  This is easier to discern when the Bible makes it clear, but there are many decisions in our life that the Bible does not speak to and we are left uncertain.  How do we make decisions into the will of God when we don’t know what it is?  The characters in the story of Ruth help us.

Discuss one or more of the following questions:
1.  What can we learn from the character of Boaz?  With God’s help, what is one characteristic that you would like to emulate in your own life?

2.  Share how your life has been impacted in a positive or negative way by someone else’s decision-making.  What did you learn from that experience?

3.  Share how you have impacted someone else’s life in a positive or negative way.  What was the change in that person?

4.  What blockages or fears are there in your life that is preventing you from being more proactive in having a positive influence into another person’s life?

5.  What are one or two things that God wants you to obey from today’s scriptures and discussion?  As a Life Group spend some time before God and ask the Holy Spirit to lay on your heart one person that you could have a positive, redemptive influence upon their lives.
