Application

The Bible has a lot to say about money. More than 2350 verses address the issue of money giving us wise advice on financial stewardship.  This is good news as many of us struggle in this area. This series on financial discipleship will explore what the Bible says about money, wealth and possessions and then provide practical, sound strategies to manage and grow our finances so that we can live a God-honouring life in this area.  With the wisdom of the Bible and a few basic skills we can manage money effectively for ourselves, our family and to advance God’s kingdom.

Discuss one or more of the following questions:

  1. What is the best piece of financial advice that you have ever received?
  2. What is your immediate association with the thought of money?  What are some words that come to mind?
  3. Read Matthew 6:19-34.
Discuss how you are living this out practically in your own life/family.  What is one thing you can do better/differently in the future?
  4. The theme that runs throughout the whole of the Bible is: We are blessed by God to be a blessing to others (e.g. 2 Corinthians 9:10-12). What is the key blockage in your life that prevents you receiving the blessings of God in the area of finance? Is there something that is holding you back from blessings others more?
  5. Read 1 Timothy 5:1-8.
What does this passage say about discipleship in the home in regard to looking after your own family?  What is one thing that you can better?
  6. Read 1 John 3: 16-18.
How can we care practically for those in need and yet help them to take responsibility for their own financial discipleship?
