Observation

  • What do these passages tell us about God/Jesus?
  • What do these passages tell us about you and your life?
  • What questions do you have concerning this passage?

Application

Peter writes this letter to encourage the Gentile Christians to stand with unshakable faithfulness under the pressure of arising persecution and hardship. He encourages them to live an unshakable life by first reminding them of two key truths:

  1. Remember who you are. You are God’s Chosen people.
  2. Remember where you are going. You are heading towards eternity with God or without God.

Discuss one or more of the following relevant questions.

  • Are there events in your life that have shaken you and caused you to rethink how you view and live your life? How have you viewed and lived your life differently since that event?
  • How would it have made the Gentile Christians feel to know they were chosen by God? How does that help them stand in the midst of hardship?
  • What does it mean for you to be ‘chosen’ by God? How does that make you feel that God in His ‘foreknowledge’ chose you warts and all?
  • What are some of the pressures in your life that makes you feel like you are not God’s chosen people? In what ways does forgetting this truth make you live your life differently?
  • Pastor Chee shared that when we forget of eternity, we tend to lose sight of what is important. Is this true for you? What are some of the things in your life that makes you forget? What practical things can you do to help you remember this so that you don’t lose sight of what is important?
  • Read Hebrews 11:8-16. How did these ‘heroes of faith’ live as ‘foreigners’ in this world? What does it mean for you to live as ‘foreigners’ in your everyday world?

Response

Ps Chee shared that God wants to produce something from our lives out of this season as a church. Come together as one group and share in a few sentences your answer to these questions.

  • What does God want to produce out of this season for you personal life?
  • What does God want to produce out of this season for us as a life group?
