Observation

  • What is the key message of this passage? Explain why you think so?
  • What does this passage tell us about God?
  • Are there truths in this passage that contradicts your own thinking about God, self or the world?

Application

  1. Mention an incident in your life when it was not initially evident that God was present but in hindsight you came to realise that the Philippians passage was true in life – God was indeed working in you and with you in that situation.
  2. Share a time when God spoke to you personally through a passage in the Bible.  What issue/situation did it address?  How did it change you or your perception of the circumstances you were in?
  3. Describe a personal experience when you were not willing to listen to God or others concerning a certain situation.  How and when did you come to your senses?  What did you learn from this discipleship journey?
  4. What does enduring love and care look like in the case of someone who does not want to change or take ownership of their issues?  What healthy boundaries can you put down when dealing with similar people?
  5. Where would you be now if God was not in your life?  Spend some time in prayer thanking Him for what He has done and is doing in your life.
  6. What ways work best for you that help you stay connected to God?  Are there any changes you need to make in your life to ensure this connection remains strong?
