Observation

  • What is the key message of this passage? Explain why you think so?
  • What does this passage tell us about God?
  • Are there truths in this passage that contradicts your own thinking about God, self or the world?

Application

As disciples of Jesus we need to understand that being faithful with our finances is not just a matter of tithes and offerings, but a matter of using our finances to advance God’s kingdom in a myriad of different ways.

Discuss one or more of the following questions:

  1. Richard Beaumont referenced a famous JD Rockefeller quote when Rockefeller was asked how much money is enough? His response, “Just a little bit more…” Richard’s question to us was, “How much is enough for us?”
  2. Luke 12:27-28 (ESV)
27 Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 28 But if God so clothes the grass, which is alive in the field today, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O you of little faith!
How much do we worry about things that God has told us not to? Why do we continue to worry, and what does that teach us about our trust in God’s providence?
  3. Think of a time when God has provided. Remind yourself of all the times God has provided, because we tend to forget very quickly about how faithful God has been.
  4. Do you tend to spread your wealth around or are you more likely to hoard it and draw it in tight? Why?
  5. What are one or two things that God wants you to obey from today’s scriptures and discussion?  As a Life Group spend some time before God and ask the Holy Spirit to lay on your heart How you can learn to hold your treasures with an open hand for the sake of advancing the Gospel.
