Observation

  • What is the key message of this passage? Explain why you think so?
  • What does this passage tell us about God?
  • Are there truths in this passage that contradicts your own thinking about God, self or the world?

Application

The vision of our church is to build disciples who represent Jesus to everyone, everywhere with everything.  That is, the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20) is a call to build disciples who represent Jesus in every sphere of life.  This means there is no such thing as just a private faith, a Sunday only faith or a ticket to heaven only faith.  Rather, our faith in Jesus must impact the totality of our lives – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  We don’t switch God on and off according to where we are, whom we are with or what we are doing.  Instead we do life out of the very core of ‘Christ in us’.

Discuss one or more of the following questions:

Looking back in the past what is the major way that God has used to transform you to cause a heart change?

  1. Sometimes we try to bring change driven by our self-effort and management rather than responding to what God is trying to do in our lives.  How do you recognise the difference and how can you apply this to your life?
  2. Change from the inside versus change from the outside sounds like a difficult concept to understand.  What would transformation from the inside look like?  How would you know that you are transforming on the inside?
  3. Romans 1:21-32 declares that our sinful behaviours are just an outworking of idols of the heart – we have exchanged the worship of God for the worship of idols.  What idols of the heart are you most susceptible to?  How can others help you in this area?
  4. Using the Discipleship Tool (attached) as a guide, share a pattern or situation in your life that you know needs God’s redemption? (Bad habits, argument, relationship issue etc).  Brainstorm with the Life Group what you could be working on this week.  Share with the rest of the Life Group any revelations/breakthroughs next time you meet.

Response

  • Is there a truth that God wants you to obey?
  • Is there someone you can share this message with?
  • What is one thing you can do this week in obedience? (I will…)
