SERMON SUMMARY

This week Ps Kyle shared a message from 1 Thessalonians about God’s Spirit is in charge of changing people’s hearts and lives; and how we as followers of Christ have an important role to play in how we live our lives.

1 Thessalonians 1:5-6

The Holy Spirit reveals and assures the truth of the Gospel to people. We are not in charge of whether people receive the Gospel, and we do not do the work of changing people’s lives. The Holy Spirit is moving in people’s lives, it has in the past, it is now, and it will continue to do so into the future.

1 Corinthians 2:10-11

God’s Spirit reveals truth to us. We are helpless without God’s Spirit. It is not just the vehicle, but it’s the key, the map, the fuel…it’s the whole thing.

1 Thessalonians 1:5b-6a

“…And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you. 6 So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you…”

1 Thessalonians 2:9-13

The way we conduct ourselves and the way we live our lives gives witness to the power of the Holy Spirit in us. Our lives are a testimony, and for better or for worse, our lives are missional.

Discuss one or more of the following questions:

1. Share with one another your experience of being present with God and hearing his voice.

2. Listening to this week’s sermon, what spoke to you and why?

3. How do you feel about God’s Spirit being in charge of changing people’s lives?

4. Share a story of God speaking to someone and you seeing the change in their life.

5. Do you feel pressure that it is your job to save people or to change their hearts? Or do you feel relief knowing God is in control?

6. When reading 1 Thessalonians 1 & 2, do you understand the impact a Godly life has on the people around you?

7. Do you believe people “know of your concern for them” based on how you live? What does that look like?

8. Share how someone else has been an encouragement to you in how they lived.
