SERMON SUMMARY

This year has not turned out the way many of us would have imagined or expected. It has challenged our sense of security, confronted our fears and confused our hopes for the future. As a result, many people are trying to reimagine what their lives will look like moving forward – trying new hobbies, learning new skills, pivoting in their jobs and businesses and forecasting the way of life in the future. But in the midst of all this noise, it is important as disciples to stop, listen to the voice of God and allow Him to reimagine our life into the future with Him. This series will help you learn how to hear the voice of God in your life and how God wants to lead you forward in the midst of this season of uncertainty.

WEBINAR SUNDAY 20TH SEPTEMBER (11:15-12:30PM)

Q & A HEARING THE VOICE OF GOD

Sunday sermons have a limitation to the depth and specifics we can cover regarding this topic. As a church, we have made available a webinar that will provide you an opportunity to ask the pastoral team any questions regarding the topic on ‘Hearing the Voice of God’. Click here to register

DISCUSSION

Reimagining our life with God begins with hearing and obeying the voice of God. Using Samuel’s journey of discovery as an analogy, Ps Chee shared four stages to capture the journey we can experience in discovering God’s voice:

Stage #1 BELIEVING – shift from religion to relationship by believing God wants to speak to you personally (1 Samuel 3:1-7).

Stage #2 RECOGNISING – shift from technique to posture by valuing, hungering and being attentive to the Holy Spirit’s leading in your life (1 Samuel 3:8-14).

Stage #3 SURRENDERING – shift from understanding to trust by surrendering your need to understand and control, and trusting God’s character (1 Samuel 3:15-18).

Stage #4 EXPERIENCING – shift from facts to personal history with God, through a lifestyle of hearing and obeying God’s voice (1 Samuel 3:19-21, 8:4-10)

Discuss one or more of the following questions:

1. Listening to this week’s sermon, what spoke to you and why?

2. Share with one another your journey in hearing and obeying God’s voice personally. Can you identify with one or more of the stages? Give personal examples.

3. What are some of the challenges you face in hearing and obeying God’s voice?

4. Ps Chee shared that God always speaks. The issue is whether we are recognising it. He shared that how we posture our heart in the relationship is more important than the technique we use. What does it look like practically for you to value, hunger and be attentive to God’s voice in your life?

5. Read Mark 4:22-24 (AMPC – Amplified Bible Classic Edition). What insights can you gain about what we can do to hear God’s voice?

6. Read John 16:13. Ps Chee shared that you cannot value the Holy Spirit without valuing the Word of God because He is a Spirit of Truth. The Word of God Is Truth. Discuss.

7. Read 1 Corinthians 2:9-16

a. What is the role of the Holy Spirit? What is our role?

b. How does the Holy Spirit reveal God’s thoughts and heart to you? Give examples.

c. What are some of the wonderful things God wants to reveal that He has freely given us?

d. What are some of the things that can hinder God’s voice in our life?

8. What is something you feel like God is asking you to put into action after this week’s sermon and discussion.

9. Write a list of questions that may have been raised in the discussion, bring it to the webinar Q & A next Sunday
